Last summer I joined a community garden which sparked my interest in organic gardening. Early in March I began to plant seeds in hopes to be able to plant a wonderful garden this summer. I was incredibly excited with the success of the seedlings and was eagerly awaiting warmer temperatures to plant them. Every day for two weeks I hardened off the plants, lovingly caring for them inside and out. After studying the farmer's almanac and hearing my husband (who wanted the kitchen counter space back), I decided to plant them.
Little did I know that I would be meeting my worst enemy Saturday night.....
My new enemy is the SLUG!!
After only one night in my new garden, those little buggers have already eaten through many of the tomato leaves. AHH! All of my hard work.... so of course this means a new challenge.!
Luckily it was a rainy saturday, a perfect day to research slug traps. And so, the challenge begins...
My garden now has egg shells, various beer traps (dog proofed of course), and copper rings around the bottom of each tomato plant.
I am now on constant slug patrol. Even with the numerous beer slug traps around the garden, it seems to be most successful to go outside and find them on my own.
Does anyone have some other ideas? (they have to be dog friendly of course...no pesticides)
